Health Minister Dr Ramesh Pathirana yesterday engaged in an inspection tour to Karapitiya Teaching Hospital in Galle.
During the inspection tour, the Minister instructed the Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau (CECB) officials to carry out the renovation and development of the hospital in an expeditious and orderly manner.
Minister Pathirana paid attention on the development of human and physical resources of the Galle Karapitiya Teaching Hospital, the way the treatment services are being implemented as well as the renovation and development activities being carried out in view of the objective of providing quality health services to the people.
Here the hospital has Emergency Treatment Unit (ETU), Neurological Examination Unit, Medical Laboratory, Neuro Physiology Unit, Catheter Lab, Electrocardiogram Unit (ECG), Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Main Kitchen, 10 floors under construction. The ward complex, the outpatient department, the cancer treatment unit and the hospital premises were observed by the Minister of Health.
The Minister of Health advised the officials of the Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau (CECB) to carry out the renovation and development work of the hospital promptly and properly, and requested that the financial estimates related to the future development work be provided promptly. The Minister of Health also stated that he will provide the necessary financial allocations for the development activities in this year and the necessary financial allocations for the next year.
Having a friendly conversation with the patients who came to receive treatment from the hospital, the Minister of Health directed his attention to the problems faced by the patients and instructed the officials to consider the provision of necessary facilities to the patients.
