There are hopes the current truce between Israel and Hamas could be extended – talks are being held in Qatar. Israel says it’s received a list of hostages held in Gaza who could be released later on Wednesday. On Tuesday, 12 more hostages were released by Hamas and Israel freed 30 more Palestinian prisoners. The Palestinian Authority says two children have been killed by gunfire in the West Bank city of Jenin, where Israel is carrying out an operation.
Meanwhile the stories of those held in Gaza are continuing to emerge – the son of a 75-year-old woman, Ada Sagi, has been speaking about being reunited with her. Palestinian prisoners have alleged mistreatment while in Israeli jails. A 14-year-old boy said he witnessed beatings; Israel has not commented. Hamas crossed the border and killed 1,200 people in Israel on 7 October, with about 240 taken hostage. Since then, Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry says more than 14,800 people have been killed in Israel’s retaliatory campaign, including about 6,000 children.
