Husband, wife in hot water over foreign employment scam

Investigations have started on a husband and wife who defrauded Rs.25 million from 32 foreign job aspirants claiming that they would provide jobs in Romania, Police Fraud and Corruption Bureau said.

This couple worked as sales representatives of a private insurance company.

The Police Fraud and Corruption Bureau revealed that the couple while going from village to village for work, had defrauded money from 32 people by saying that they could give them jobs in Romania.

Police investigations also revealed that the suspects took Rs.200,000 to Rs.1,350,000 from one person.

Thirty-two job aspirants residing in many areas including Halawatha, Kalpitiya, Puttalam, Thoduwawa, Arachchikattuwa, Negombo, Marawila, Wennappuwa, and Anuradhapura have been duped by this couple, and the Police Fraud and Corruption Bureau is conducting further investigations.
