Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Presidential candidate Namal Rajapaksa stated on Saturday (17) that he feels a responsibility, as a young politician, to protect the culture and religion of the Nation. He made this statement during his visit to Kandy to receive the blessings of the Sacred Tooth Relic.
Following his visit to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, Rajapaksa shared his sentiments with the media, emphasising that he will continue to follow the policies of prioritising religion and culture, a legacy left by his father, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa. He acknowledged that some might view this as politicisation, but he firmly supports these principles. Rajapaksa and SLPP members visited the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic on Saturday (17), where he engaged in religious observances. Afterwards, he met with the Mahanayake Theras and Anunayaka Theras of Malwathu and Asgiriya Buddhist chapters, seeking their blessings as well.
Rajapaksa visited St. Anthony’s Church and the Hindu Kovil in Katukele, where he also received blessings. Rajapaksa and his entourage visited the Jumma Mosque in Katukele, also to receive blessings.
