Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Chairman, former President Maithripala Sirisena has taken steps to temporarily suspend the Party membership of SLPP General Secretary MP Dayasiri Jayasekara. Accordingly, Jayasekara’s party membership has been temporarily suspended with effect from yesterday (6) in accordance with the powers vested with the party chairman due to his indiscipline and violation of the constitution of the SLPP.
A copy of the letter regarding the suspension of party membership has been forwarded to Jayasekara right after the suspension. Accordingly, it has been informed that it is not possible to act as the general secretary of the party furthermore. A disciplinary investigation will be held against Jayasekara in due course under Section 15 (c) of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Constitution. It is mentioned in the announcement issued by the Sri Lanka Freedom Party that they will send the charge sheet regarding the breach of discipline within the next 14 days.
A copy of the letter regarding the suspension of party membership has also been forwarded to the Chairman of the Election Commission also. Meanwhile, MP Jayasekara while addressing the media said that he did not think that the party leader would cut my throat.
The party leader could have directly told him to give up the post of party secretary.
He stated that such questions arise when dealing with a person who is constantly mistrusting and suspicious.
Jayasekara further emphasized that Maithripala Sirisena is also a victim of the conspiracy of those who supported the government.
He said that the nominations submitted under the helicopter sign are still valid and the alliance made under the helicopter sign is also valid.
Meanwhile SLFP Deputy Secretary Sarath Ekanayake has been appointed as the Acting Secretary for the vacant post of SLFP General Secretary at the special political meeting called on Tuesday at 7 pm.
