Urban Development and Housing Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said that the SLPP will field a Common Candidate at the next Presidential Election.
The Minister further said if current President Ranil Wickremesinghe is nominated as a common candidate, he will extend his support to him.
However, the Minister emphasizes that President Ranil Wickremesinghe has not issued any statement regarding whether he will contest the next Presidential election or not. I am one of the first to build Pohottuwa. So, Why am I disappointed with Pohottuwa? We will be a strength for President Ranil Wickremesinghe by strengthening Pohottuwa. We will win the next Presidential election by presenting a suitable common candidate who joins the Pohottuwa.
He said this in reply to the questions raised by journalists, when he came to the Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission yesterday to give a statement to the investigation going on based on the complaint regarding the burning down of his house by the ‘Argalaya’ activists on May 9 last year.
A large number of Police and STF members were present at the place, when my house was set on fire. However, it is suspicious as these officers did not operate the minimum force at that time. I also have a doubt whether the investigations are conducted fairly or not after the arson incident.
There is a problem with the Police and the Army behaving in the same way. We need to find out who ordered to do so. We were informed that the security forces received orders from high-rankers not to use weapons. Therefore, Presidential Commission with full powers should be appointed and look into this. Because the intelligence agencies had informed the security forces about such an incident earlier.
Therefore, We also have a problem with such a thing happening in such a background.
