Finance State Minister Dr. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya yesterday said that the government will consider the IMF agreement as a starting point to alleviate poverty in the country.
He said the statement made by the IMF representatives that the economic recovery programme in the country is progressing successfully, gives an indication that IMF has accepted the government programme to get the country out of crisis. He said that the country will be directed towards a positive economic development after getting rid of the economic crisis and a rapid programme will be implemented in the future to alleviate poverty and unemployment in the country. Siyambalapitiya is of the view that the government will be able to implement programmes with the support of IMF to bring more benefits to each and every citizen of the country.
