Immunoglobulin case: Customs DG ordered to appear in Court

Maligakanda Magistrate Lochani Abeywickrama yesterday ordered the Director General of Customs (DGC) to personally appear in Courts over the failure to provide Customs reports related to the import of empty vaccine vials, water purifiers

and water purifier equipment by the first suspect the supplier of the substandard human immunoglobulin vaccine doses to the CID.

The Magistrate made the order following facts presented by Deputy Solicitor General Lakmini Giriyagama, ,that although the court ordered the Customs to hand over these customs reports to the CID on December 28, the reports have not been handed over so far.

Meanwhile the seven suspects including the former Health Ministry Secretary Janaka Chandragupta, were further remanded by the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court over the controversial procurement of substandard human immunoglobulin vials.

The suspects were remanded until January 17.
