The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) has reminded taxpayers that the deadline for the final payment of income tax for the Year of Assessment 2025/2026 is September 30, 2026.
In a notice to taxpayers, the department urged individuals and businesses liable for income tax to make their payments on or before the deadline to avoid penalties and interest.
The notice applies to Corporate Income Tax (CIT), Individual Income Tax (IIT) and Partnership Income Tax (PIT).
The IRD said payments can be made through its Online Tax Payment Platform, while CIT, IIT and PIT payments can also be made at any Bank of Ceylon branch.
Taxpayers making payments at a bank without using a preprinted paying-in slip have been advised to include their Document Identification Number (DIN) on the payment slip to ensure the payment is correctly recorded.
The department warned that interest and penalties will be imposed for non-payment or late payment of taxes, adding that interest imposed for late payment cannot be waived or reduced.
It also said that if a bank draft or pay order is realised after the due date, the payment will be treated as late.
Taxpayers seeking assistance can contact the IRD hotline on 1944. (Newswire)
