India alerted Sri Lanka on heroin vessel brought ashore – Police

The Police Headquarters states that the information about the multi-day fishing vessel that was nabbed with more than 179 kilogrammes of heroin on the Southern coast of Sri Lanka on April 15   was provided by the Indian Narcotics Control Bureau.

The Police Media Spokesman’s Office stated that based on information provided by the Indian Narcotics Bureau to the Police Narcotics Bureau, the PNB, the State Intelligence Service, the Sri Lanka Navy and the Coast Guard launched a joint operation to nab the vessel. According to a media report by the Police, the vessel carrying the narcotics was intercepted using the coast guard vessel of the Coast Guard Department.

The Police Media Spokesman’s Office states that information has been uncovered that this drug trafficking is being conducted from a foreign country and the Police Narcotics Bureau is conducting investigations to arrest the local representatives involved in the racket.
