Expanding fishing relations between both countries to be discussed

Harmful bottom trawling practice to be taken up

An Indian delegation consisting of 12 officials is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka today (28) to hold discussions on India–Sri Lanka fisheries issues and fisheries development activities of the two countries, informed sources said.

The discussions between the Indian delegation and Sri Lankan officials will begin tomorrow (29) morning at the Mahaweli Ministry auditorium, Colombo.

Fisheries Ministry Secretary Nishantha Wickramasinghe, Additional Secretary Dhammika Ranatunga, Fisheries Director General Susantha Kahawatta, NARA officials and officials from the Aquaculture Development Authority, Coast Guard, Foreign Ministry, Attorney General’s Department, Navy and Police are slated to join in the discussions.

Finding solutions to the Indo–Sri Lanka fishing problem at the diplomatic level and expanding fishing relations between the two countries are on the schedule for discussion.

Discussions will also focus on controlling the harmful bottom trawling practice by fishermen, sources said.
