Indonesian Festival enthralls visitors

The Embassy of Indonesia together with the Sri Lanka–Indonesia Friendship Association (SLIFA) organised the Indonesian Festival on Saturday, August 10,at the Indonesian Embassy.

The Indonesian Festival was an evening of cultural items and a bazaar and was organised for the third consecutive year. All proceeds from this event were in aid of charity.

The bazaar was opened by Indonesian Ambassador Dewi Gustina Tobing. She was received by SLIFA President Nihal Jayasuriya and members of the Executive Committee. This festival was also attended by diplomats from Iran, Nepal, Maldives, Australia, South Africa, and Malaysia in Sri Lanka.

The chief guest was Parliament Secretary General Kushani Rohanadeera, who was received by Ambassador Gustina Tobing, SLIFA President Nihal Jayasuriya, and members of the Indonesian Embassy and members of the Executive Committee.

The highlight of the event was the Indonesian Pavilion, which showcased the Indonesian batik industry with a demonstration of batik manufacturing done by an Indonesian team. In addition, there was a display of Indonesian musical instruments and products, as well as promotion of tourism of Indonesia.

The gala cultural show featured a special Indonesian dance team, Ayodya Pala, which was flown in from Indonesia as well as the Sri Lankan Police cultural troupe and other local artistes. The performances showcased dance items, songs, music and other items both from Sri Lanka and Indonesia.

Ambassador Tobing invited the diplomats to play the angklung, the musical instrument of West Java Province, which is made from bamboo.

The bazaar consisted of 40 trade stalls with a wide range of products including food items, clothing, household items, handicrafts and cosmetics.

The Indonesian Festival was an event for the entire family. There was a large participation of Sri Lankans and diplomats along with their families, who had an enjoyable time.
