The tall left-arm pacer sustained a finger injury during England’s previous game against South Africa and didn’t come out to bat in the second half. He has been replaced by Brydon Carse in the English World Cup squad.
Talking about Carse, the right-arm pacer has scalped 14 wickets in 12 ODI matches at an economy of 5.74.
In his absence, England will likely use David Willey and Gus Atkinson with the new ball, with Mark Wood set to play as the enforcer in the middle overs.
England have had a forgettable World Cup campaign, reeling at the ninth position with a single win in four appearances. They were crushed by New Zealand in the tournament opener before recording a comprehensive win over Bangladesh in Dharamsala. However, Afghanistan stunned them in Delhi before South Africa annihilated them in Mumbai.

Meantime in Sri Lankan squad. Fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana has to withdraw from this year’s World Cup.It is due to his injury is not cured. Accordingly, Sri Lanka Cricket has requested the ICC Technical Committee to release Mathiesha Pathirana from the Sri Lankan squad and one of Mathews or Chamira is going to be called to replace Mathiesha. It is reported that Dushmantha Chamira will probably replace Matheesha in the squad. SLC staff said that Maheesh Theekshana’s injury is not serious.
