International Arabic Language Day is observed annually on December 18. The event was established by the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation in 2010.
The Muslim Schools Development Branch of the Ministry of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education organised a special programme to commemorate International Arabic Language Day.
It was held at the Hajara Hall, Muslim Ladies College, Colombo recently under the patronage of Principal of the College Nazriya Munas. Director of the Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affair M.S.M. Nawaz was present as chief guest, guest of honour Muslim Schools Development Branch Director of Education Major N.T.Nasumutheen, guest speaker Jamiah Naleemiah Senior Lecturer Ash-Sheikh S.H.M. Faleel and All Ceylon YMMA Conference Past President Saheed M. Rizmy addressed the gathering significance of the Arabic Language.
Also Students spoke about Import of Arabic Language and presented Islamic cultural events at this ceremony.
Shashi Prabath Wijerathna, Assistant Director, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Middle East Division, Deputy Principals, Vice Principals, MLC Muslim Majlis teacher in charge Farah Shahul Hameed, teachers and students were also present.
