Sixteen year old Isiri Meegammana, a Grade thirteen student of Mahamaya Girls School,Kandy has been appointed as the Captain of the School Cricket team for the third successive year. She led the team as the youngest Cricket Captain of the School at the Girls Cricket Tournament organized by the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association in the year 2019.
Isiri is a left arm medium pace bowler and a right hand top order batswoman. She started her cricket career at the age of Twelve years under the coaching of the writer, who has been coaching the Mahamaya Girls cricket team for the last thirty six years .
In the following year too her team played against the same Club and she claimed five wickets for thirty five runs in the particular match. Isiri led the Mahamaya Girls cricket team to become one of the ‘Best teams’ in the Island in the year 2018 but the school team could not participate at the all Island cricket tournament held in 2019 due to unavoidable circumstances. As a Cricketer she was selected to the Kandy District girls cricket team under the coaching of Amila Pinnaduwa,the Provincial cricket coach attached to Sri Lanka cricket.
Isiri is a member of the School Under 15 Netball team under the coaching of Indu Ranasinghe, a talented Athlete who is a teacher in the School. Isiri is a bright student who has got 9 ‘A’s at the G.C.E.(O/L) examination.
