The “Jaffna Special Economic Centre” in Madduvil, Jaffna was opened by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday morning (20). This specialized economic centre has been set up to enable the farmers to get a fair price for their products and to facilitate the consumers to purchase vegetables and fruits at concessionary prices.The government has spent Rs. 200 million for the project.The Prime Minister who visited the Madduvil area in Jaffna was warmly welcomed by the people of the area.The centre will receive vegetables and fruits from the Jaffna market in addition to local farmers.The Prime Minister also addressed a large gathering of people present to witness the opening.
