Japan grants Rs. 32 Mn to enhance medical, dairy facilities in NP

Japanese Ambassador Mizukoshi Hideaki signed the grant contracts of two Cooperative Societies under the scheme of ‘Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP)’, with Moolai Cooperative Hospital President A. N. Manuneethy, and Livestock Breeder’s Cooperative Society (LIBCO) President V. Ketheeswaran on Monday (11).

The Japanese Government has provided a total sum of US$ 103,924 (Rs. 32 million) for these two projects with Moolai Hospital and LIBCO to extend its support for improving medical and dairy facilities in the Northern Province (NP).

The development of the conflict-affected areas is one of the priority areas of Japan’s official development assistance policy to Sri Lanka. The Japanese Government has been supporting the peace-building and reconciliation process in the country, especially in the Northern Province, through various forms of assistance.

Ambassador Mizukoshi emphasised the projects’ substantial contribution to improving social service infrastructure, benefiting individuals, and ensuring the sustainability of key industries in vulnerable rural areas. Additionally, he expressed hope that the initiatives would promote harmony among diverse ethnic and religious groups in the Northern Province, essential for the long-term stability and prosperity of this country.
