Jordan Johnson scored an unbeaten 54 was the only highlight on day third of the first four-day game between Sri Lanka Under 19 and West Indies Under 19 which was washed out due to rain yesterday at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium.

After the Sri Lanka Youth team posted a massive first innings total of 432 for 8 wickets declared, commencing from the overnight score of 27 for 1 wickets, the West Indies only played 25 overs when rain halted play. Number four batsman, left hander, Jordan Johnson who scored a superb century in their second winning ODI once again came into form scoring an unbeaten 54 in 67 balls with 5 fours and a six while Steve Wedderborn hit an unbeaten 28 in 54 balls with 2 fours and a six, the duo added a 69-run unbroken stand for the fourth wicket to finish the day off.

Speaking to the Daily News West Indies Under 19 team Manager Gibbs Williams said that the series is a good experience for young Caribbean players. Playing on sub-continental wickets gives a new experience for West Indies players. We have a few players who played in the last Under 19 World Cup while the newcomers also performed well in this series. We lost the ODI series 1-2 but adapting to their conditions is important as the next Under 19 World Cup will be held next January in Sri Lanka.

It is the first tour for a lot of them here while Sri Lanka Cricket is doing a good job organising this series in Dambulla which is a good venue to play the four-day matches, said Williams.

We had good preparation before this series and I am happy about our boys’ performances, said Williams.

The game will continue today for day four while the second and final four-day will commence on September 12 at the same venue.
