When the meeting of the Kandy District Coordinating Committee started on Wednesday (14) at the Kandy District Secretariat Auditorium with the participation of Minister Prasanna Ranatunga, the Co-Chairman of the Coordinating Committee, MP Gunathilaka Rajapaksa informed journalists to leave the hall if they were present.
The former chairman of the coordination committee, MP Wasantha Yapa Bandara protested the expulsion of journalists from the hall and said that it is an anti-democratic act.
Wasantha Yapa Bandara said that there are serious contradictions between Gunathilaka Rajapaksa questioning why journalists were not participating in the Yatinuwara Coordination Committee which was held before the Kandy District Coordination Committee and the same MP not allowing the journalists to cover the Kandy District Coordination Committee meeting.
At that instance, MP Gunathilaka Rajapakse stated that the Central Provincial Media Unit and the Media Unit of the Government Information Department would cover the Kandy District Coordinating Committee meeting and provide news to media outlets.
Therefore, he said that there was no need for other media to cover the Kandy District Coordinating Committee meeting.
MP Gunathilaka Rajapaksa’s private secretary Anura Madalusa said after the meeting that the MP had been fallen ill and admitted to a private hospital in Kandy.
