JVP files police complaint against Ven. Balangoda Kassapa Thera

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) filed a complaint with the Cinnamon Gardens Police on October 23, seeking an investigation into a statement made by Ven. Balangoda Kassapa Thera.

The complaint follows the monk’s allegation that a man reportedly apprehended with two knives by Buddhist monks protesting near Viharamahadevi Park was connected to the JVP headquarters in Pelawatte.

The JVP has denied any connection between the suspect and its Pelawatte office.

According to the complaint, registered under reference number CIB II 289/237, the party alleges that the statement was false and could potentially provoke public unrest.

The JVP also raised concerns about possible security threats to its headquarters, noting that President Anura Kumara Dissanayake regularly visits the premises.

The party has requested a fair investigation into the allegation and submitted relevant video footage and social media posts to the police. (Newswire)
