JVP lacks moral right to organize a Convention for Buddhist monks – Sugeeswara Bandara

Sugeeswara Bandara stated that the JVP lacks the moral right in organizing a Convention for Buddhist monks due to their implication in the deaths of 24 Buddhist monks.

He emphasised that the party has not addressed the violent acts committed during the 88/90 period nor issued a public apology for their role in those killings.

Speaking at the second public rally of the New Alliance at Hyde Park on Saturday, Bandara recollected how his father who was a Magistrate was brutally killed by the ruthless JVP members when he was just four years old.

He said that his father was a member of the Communist Party. He mentioned that he was one of the many families who had lost a loved one due to the actions of the JVP.

“I ask JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake whether they are ready to tell the world about their involvement in this killing spree.”

He added that the Country witnessed terrorism, unleashed by the JVP in 2022.

They were prepared to surround the parliament building. Nevertheless, their efforts to bring the Legislature under their control and undermine the foundation of sovereignty were effectively thwarted.

He said that they are misleading the members of the Maha Sangha.

A programme of work will be presented to the country through a broader alliance which has no affiliation to any political party.

This alliance will play a pivotal role in bringing reforms to vital sectors in the country.
