The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) retains the salary of its public representatives and only an amount decided by the party is shared among them as their salary, said former President Maithripala Sirisena.
He stated this addressing a meeting of the candidates of Sri Lanka Freedom Party, who are contesting the upcoming Local Government election from the Gampaha District.
The former President said the JVP leaders on the political stage say that the JVP members do not obtain their salary, but this is what the party is doing. Before signing the nominations for the election, the JVP has sent a set of conditions to their candidates, which includes the way how they should act after the election win. “In some districts such as Polonnaruwa, there were disagreements between the party and the candidates regarding these conditions,” the former President further said.
