A team of officials from the Kandy Election Office yesterday (24) visited the residence of former State Minister Anuradha Jayaratne in the Doluwa area and halted a dinner he had arranged, based on information received about a meeting. The inspection of the residence was carried out following a tip-off provided by Transparency International.
When the election officials, accompanied by officers from the Gampola Police, arrived at the scene, preparations were underway to serve a buffet meal to around 100 people. At the time of the visit, Jayaratne was not present at the residence. His wife was informed that holding such a gathering for supporters would constitute a violation of election laws. It was also revealed that a large number of residents from Gampola and surrounding villages had been transported for the dinner in buses.
