The concluding ceremony of the Kandy Esala Perahera festival will be held today (20) afternoon at President’s House in Kandy under the patronage of President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The Esala Perahera will come to an end after the Noon Perahera parades the streets today.
On completion of the Perahera, the Diyawadana Nilame would lead a procession consisting of the Nilames of Sathara Maha Devalayas and the Nilames of Rural Devalayas to the President’s House carrying a sannasa (formal letter) known as the Perahera Sandeshaya to the President stating the successful completion of the annual event.
The final Randoli Maha Perahera of the Esala Perahera festival in Kandy paraded the streets yesterday.
Today morning the traditional water-cutting ceremony will be held at Getambe.
The Sri Dalada Esala Perahera of the Scared Temple of the Tooth Relic in Kandy commenced with the ‘Kap Situweema’ ceremony on August 05.
After completing the five internal Peraheras of the Devalayas, the first Kumbal Perahera paraded the streets on August 10. The Randoli Perahera began on August 15.
