This club maintains an iron- grip on the game at all level, which enables it to achieve success continuously. The key point of difference from most other rugby clubs is this club maintains the game in the right way thanks to Fazil Marija the head coach who is a former national player who is currently head coach of the club. He learnt his rugby at Kingswood College and later polished his rugby as a player at Kandy Sports Club.
In a history spanning over 150 years,Kandy Sports Club have won more than any other club the league title since 1994,a big hand should go to their rugby committee chairman Lasantha Wijesuriya who learnt his rugby at St.Anthony’s College, it is his backing that the club has developed a strong overall rugby ethos which is an element that contributes to the success of the club. That emphasis on performance under pressure ensures that the Kandy SC rugby players are most likely to stand up to when the chips are down.
