Taylor first came at the end of 2006 and coached the team from 2007 for six years and guided Kandy SC to win both the knockout and league title for five years. The rugby’ double eluded them in 2012. Taylor is a fine coach who has coached the Sri Lanka team as well as Royal College in 2013. He played most of his rugby in Ireland after leaving South Africa. Besides he is a Level three qualified rugby coach. He is also a very good golfer winning many awards in golf tournaments conducted by the Victoria Golf and Country Resort.
Kandy Sports Club have a very proud rugby history and have achieved much in the game, they are the only club who have won all three tournaments on many occasions. At the moment they are hard at training and sure to come back in the game. According to news from, Kandy Sports Club Six of the experienced forwards will not be available for the forthcoming season.
Props Ashan Darling and Panda Dissanayake have joined CH and FC, Hard working Lock forward Soyuru Anthony has found employment in Colombo and the talented young Shabeer has migrated to the United States. The two best third row forwards – Charles Jason Dissanayake who recently got married is in London and Buvaneka Udangamuwa who also married a few months ago is planning to go to Scotland with his wife for higher studies.
Their absence will be a big loss for the Kandy Sports Club team but the Rugby Committee is pleased with the new schoolboy talent that has joined the club. Amerasinghe brothers Dinuk and Mathish from St Anthony’s, Bawantha Dharmapala from Trinity, Soysa and Pathum from Kingswood, Piyaratne from Maliyadeva and Thilina Bandara are showing a lot of promise.
With experienced players like Damith Dissanayake, Shehan Pathirana, Heshan Kalhara, Yakoob. Ali, Lasith Aththanagoda, Charles Praveen, and Tharindu Chathuranga the Kandy coaches are confident the forwards will be able to maintain the high standards.
The back line is more or less unchanged with skipper Nigel Ratwatte, Roshan Weeraratne, Srinath Sooriyabandara, Heshan Janson, Tharindu Ratwatte, Lavanga and Oshan Perera, Kavindu Perera, Diluksha Dange, Danush Dayan, Asiri Herath and Buddhima Piyaratne. Danushka Ranjan is expected to turn up for practices shortly.
The coaches Fazil Marija and Buddhima Thalagampola are confident that the boys will play attractive Rugby. The Rugby Committee chaired by Lasantha Wijasuriya a keen follower of the game. Team Manager is Kapila Silva and Head coach Fazil Marija are doing their best to ensure Kandy SC has another successful year.
