Katugastota St. Anthony’s Girls’ school Principal P. K. R. C. Ranasinghe, who is a suspect in the case related to the alleged admission of students into intermediate classes by means of fake documents, filed for anticipatory bail through her lawyers and the decision on that will be given on July 5, Kandy, Additional Magistrate Mohammad Rafi said.
The magistrate announced this when the case in connection with the above incident was taken up for hearing on June 28.
Submitting facts in court, Officer-In-Charge of the Kandy Special Crimes Investigation Division,Chief Inspector W. M. S. Uvindasiri who is conducting investigations said that statements have
been recorded from 22 persons so far, including 17 parents who are alleged to have admitting children to the school using fake documents. He said further that it has been revealed through
those statements that the principal had obtained money to admit children to the school.
Police informed court that it has also been revealed that there have been a number of telephone conversations between the principal and one Sarathchandra Dassanayake who was taken into custody on suspicion of preparing fake documents in this case.
The Kandy Additional Magistrate Mohammed Rafi released on two surety bails of Rs. 5 million each, one Sarathchandra Dasssanayake who was arrested on suspicion that he had prepared false documents in order to admit students to intermediate classes of St. Anthony’s Girls’ School, Katugastota.
The Additional Magistrate ordered the suspect to be present in court on September 27. Sarathchandra Dassanayake participated in an identification parade and two parents recognized and identified him. Attorney S. B. Ratnayake represented the suspect.
Investigations into this incident are being carried out by Kandy Special Crimes Investigation Division OIC W. M. S. Uvindasiri, Police Sergeant (37262) Hettiarachchi and a team of police officers on the instructions of Kandy Division SSP Chamil Ratnayake.
