Kavinda Jayasena to coach Dharmaraja

Two former top ruggerites of Trinity College, Kandy Kavinda Jayasena and Thusitha de Silva has taken over as head coach and Assistant coach of Dharmaraja College, Kandy rugby team. Both are sure to give of their best. Head coach Kavinda Jayasena a man with a good history in the field of rugby is a product of Trinity College, They have the ability transforming Dharmaraja College rugby into a strong unit. So, Trinity College’s loss is Dharmaraja College’s gain. These two coaches gave a big hand for Trinity rugby and put the game in the proper way, they should have continued but Trinity College lost these two good coaches..

Kavinda represented his school at all age groups (13, 15, 17 & 1st XV from 1997 to1999), – He won the prestigious Trinity College Rugby Lion for outstanding performance in the college rugby-football team, Before that he won colours for exceptional performance in the year 1999, then won the best player award in1999 and the excellence award offered by the Old Trinitians Sports Club in the year 2000.

In the year 2000 he first played for Kandy Sports club and polished his rugby. Then he crossed over to Havelock Sports Club and played from 2001-2002 and from 2006 to 2015, captaining the side in 2008 and 2011. In the year 2003 he came back to his home town where he learnt the game and played for Kandy SC in 2003.

Then in the mercantile tournament he played for Hatton National Bank from 2000 -2004. In the year 2004 he took wing to England and was there till 2007

At national level, represented the Sri Lanka Youth team in1999, then in 2001played for the Sri Lanka team in the World Cup-qualifying matches held in Kazakhstan. In 2002 he played for the Sri Lanka team at the18th Rugby Asiad held in Bangkok and was also a member of the Lankan team for the annual Singer Sevens. He also represented the Chennai Rugby Football team in the All India Rugby tournament in 2007-2008 held in Mumbai.

Thusitha de Silva at present a famous building contractor in out of Kandy, he played for Trinity as a back division player and later for Kandy SC. He later took up coaching and did a good job and continues coaching He is also having a rugby academy. He was sports secretary of the Old Trinitians Sports Club. Thusitha represented Trinity College at all age groups. and was a top first XV player in the years 1993. 94 and 95. At club level he represented Kandy Sports Club in 1997, Kandy Youth Sports Club and Old Trinitians Sports Club. He led the Trinity College Under-17 team in 1993 and at senior level was a top class player and tackler and won schools rugby colours in 1994. He completed his IRB Level 1, IRB Level 2, IRB Strength and Conditioning Level 1, was part of the Trinity coaching unit under Neil Footy, Erick Miller and Lotte Raikaboola.

Old Rajans Rugby Football Association under the leadership of Sanjeewa Hulangamuwa who played 1st XV rugby in 1997 is all-out to give his best along with his committee and the principal who is the head of Sri Lanka school rugby Kamal Ariyawanasa is sure to give his support.
