Key members of ACMC extend support to President

Several prominent members of the All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC) led by Rishad Bathiudeen have pledged their full support for President Ranil Wickremesinghe in the upcoming Presidential Election.

Among those expressing their backing were Alikhan Sherif, former Northern Provincial Council member, A.G.H. Subihan, former Musali Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman, and several former council members, including A.R.M. Rasmin, Hanif Maqbool, M.H.M. Kamil and Abdur Rahman, and M. Tawfiq, former president of the Musali Ulama Sabha. They met with the President yesterday (9) at his political office in Flower Road to convey their decision.

The representatives highlighted that with the exception of one Musali Local Council member, all others from the northern region are prepared to support the President in the upcoming election. They emphasised that from the start, the ACMC has supported President Wickremesinghe for his role in stabilising the country after the recent economic crisis, a stance shared by the party leadership.

However, due to pressure from certain factions within the party, Rishad Bathiudeen decided to endorse another candidate. Despite this, the representatives confirmed that the majority of the party supports President Wickremesinghe, whom they believe is the only leader capable of moving the country forward.

During the meeting, the delegation raised several issues affecting the Muslim community in the North, including the construction of the Puttalam–Mannar road. The President responded positively to these concerns.

The event was attended by Member of Parliament S.M.M. Musharraf and other key figures.

Former Beruwala Municipal Council Mayor Masahim Mohamed, who represented the Podujana Peramuna, and former Wattala Mabola Municipal Council Mayor A.H.M. Naushad, who also represented the Podujana Peramuna, met with President Wickremesinghe yesterday. During the meeting, they pledged their full support for his victory in the upcoming Presidential Election.

The meeting was also attended by Member of Parliament Dr. Rajitha Senaratne and former Kalutara Mayor Amir Nasir.
