Kurunegala Women’s Football Team emerge Champs

Kurunegala District Women’s Football Team emerged as champions in the 34th National Youth Services Sports Festival, which took place from September 29 to October 1 at the Vincent Dias Stadium in Badulla, illuminated by floodlights for the first time.

Organized by the National Youth Services Council with the support of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, this event saw Kurunegala District Women’s Football Team triumph with a 1-0 victory over Colombo District Women’s Football Team in the championship match.

In the battle for third place, Galle District Women’s Football Team and Batticalo District Women’s Football Team faced off, resulting in a goalless draw. However, Galle District Women’s Football Team secured third place by winning the penalty shootout 7-6.

Switching to the Men’s Football Championship, Ratnapura District Men’s Football Team and Ampara District Men’s Football Team squared off in the semifinals. Ultimately, Ratnapura District Men’s Football Team secured a spot in the final with a 1-0 victory over Ampara District Men’s Football Team.

On the other side of the bracket, Batticalo Men’s Football Team booked their place in the final by defeating Galle District Men’s Football Team 4-2. In the battle for third place, Ampara District Men’s Football Team secured a 2-0 victory over Galle District.

The eagerly anticipated finals of the Men’s Football Championship are scheduled to take place on October 16 as part of the 34th National Youth Sports Festival’s opening ceremony. The closing ceremony will then conclude the festivities on October 19 at the Sugathadasa Stadium.
