The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has issued a landslide early warning notice valid from 4.00 pm today (22) until 4.00 pm tomorrow (23), warning residents in several districts of potential landslide risks due to prevailing weather conditions.
A Level 3 warning (red), the highest alert level requiring immediate evacuation, has been issued for the Pasbage Korale Divisional Secretariat Division in Kandy District and the Ambagamuwa, Norwood, Kotmale West and Kotmale East areas in Nuwara Eliya District.
A Level 2 warning (amber), urging residents to remain alert, has been issued for Padukka in Colombo District; Thawalama, Nagoda and Neluwa in Galle District; Walallawita in Kalutara District; Udapalatha and Ganga Ihala Korale in Kandy District; Deraniyagala, Yatiyantota, Mawanella, Dehiowita and Aranayake in Kegalle District; Talawakelle in Nuwara Eliya District; and Ratnapura in Ratnapura District.
Meanwhile, a Level 1 warning (yellow) calling for vigilance has been issued for Seethawaka in Colombo District; Niyagama and Baddegama in Galle District; Warakapola, Kegalle, Galigamuwa, Bulathkohupitiya and Ruwanwella in Kegalle District; Mirigama and Attanagalla in Gampaha District; Pathadumbara, Yatinuwara, Doluwa and Udunuwara in Kandy District; Alawwa, Mawathagama, Polgahawela and Mallawapitiya in Kurunegala District; Kotapola, Akuressa, Athuraliya and Pitabeddara in Matara District; Kalawana, Elapatha, Ayagama, Pelmadulla, Nivitigala and Kuruwita in Ratnapura District; and Agalawatta, Palindanuwara, Bulathsinhala and Ingiriya in Kalutara District.
Authorities have advised residents in the affected areas to remain vigilant and follow instructions issued by disaster management and local authorities. (Newswire)
