Sri Lanka Deaf Cricket team will take part in the Deaf International T-20 Cricket World Cup which is going to be held in Qatar. Sri Lanka Cricket and Sports Ministry have come forward to give their assistance to the team. Chance Sports also gave their sponsorship to the Deaf cricketers. This T-20 Deaf Cricket World Cup was scheduled to start on December 13 but it has been postponed and new dates will be notified later, said Sri Lanka Deaf team Manager and National Organiser Indrani Ariyaratne.
Deaf cricket team has many difficulties but they are dedicated to going forward said Secretary of Sri Lanka Deaf Cricket Association Hemajith Kumara. We requested support from SLC as well as Sports Ministry and we are happy to announce Chance Sports is providing sponsorship for clothes and cricket equipment bags which is very important. Sri Lanka Deaf Cricket team emerged World T-20 champions and this time once again Sri Lanka team is heading for the victory. Lankan Deaf cricketers are coached by Ushantha Gunaratne. The late Jayalath Aponsu did a tremendous job as a former Deaf team coach and under his guidance Sri Lanka Deaf team emerged T- 20 champions.
Lasantha Amarasinghe the Chairman of Chance Sports said we are always working close with players and their sports but this Sponsorship of Deaf Cricket team is special for us. They need support from all. But today they are having a lot of difficulties. They are one of the Asian level top teams and they wanted to go beyond the Asian level. Giving more exposure for this Deaf cricketers is a must. As a Sports goods providing company we are keen to associate with Deaf Cricket team, said Amarasinghe.
Gimamdu Malkom is the Sri Lanka Deaf Cricket team captain and his leadership already earned success for the team. The players from Colombo, Galle, Gampaha, Matara, Jaffna, Variyapola, Hambantota are in the Deaf team while top five players are from Galle.
