“Lanka’s public assets top USD 200 Bn”

Sri Lanka’s total value of public assets is about USD 240 billion in contrast to the auditor general’s number which is $15 billion, while the debt is USD 85 billion said Dag Detter, Former President Stattum and Director Ministry of Industry Sweden.

He said what really mattered was not the number that is most discussed, but the real market value of the assets which in the Sri Lanka case would be actually positive. “So you’re not broke. There are a lot of opportunities in this country if you would show your assets properly. The term that I would like to use and the concept and the idea that I would like to share with you is public commercial assets and not SOEs because if you use this you will open up opportunities which are very useful when you restructure, especially when you have loss making assets,” he said.
