Former MP Nimal Lanza speaking at a press briefing held at his office at Wella Weediya in Negombo on Saturday (12), said the people have decided to support them to form a formidable Opposition. He said the governments that come to power through waves don’t last long.
“We don’t want a government at this election. We want to have a strong Opposition. We want an Opposition Leader to be appointed from our end”, he said. The former MP said his Party should receive 37 seats based on the votes received by former President Wickremesinghe at the last Presidential Election. Lanza said that the government led by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is following in the footsteps of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
“People are looking for a team which is prepared to work with them. There seems to be an indication that the outcome of the Parliamentary Election will differ from that of the Presidential Election”, he said.
Lanza said his Party has fielded a strong team covering all Districts in the country. He said the Economic growth rate has gone up to 4.2%, while the country has more than US$ 6 billion foreign reserves due to the efforts made by the former President.
“Whatever said on political stages, the government in power is implementing the policies of the former President”, he said.
He said the NPP said they would reduce taxes and bring amendments to the IMF agreement. But nothing has happened so far”, he said.
