The U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka has announced that it will temporarily limit regular updates on its Facebook page due to a lapse in appropriations in the United States, which has led to a partial shutdown of the U.S. federal government.
In a post on Facebook, the embassy said it will continue to share only urgent safety and security information until full operations resume. Routine updates will remain suspended during this period.
Despite the funding lapse, the embassy clarified that scheduled passport and visa services in the United States and at U.S. embassies and consulates overseas, including Sri Lanka, will continue as the situation permits. The public has been advised to check travel.state.gov for the latest information on consular services and operating status.
A lapse in appropriations occurs when the U.S. Congress fails to pass funding legislation, temporarily limiting the government’s ability to operate non-essential services. Similar notices have been issued by other U.S. missions worldwide during the funding lapse. (NewsWire)
