Lease of RPCs not paying gazetted wage to be cancelled

The Cabinet of Ministers has decided to accelerate the process of imposing necessary laws to cancel the land lease agreements with the Government of the regional plantation companies (RPCs) that do not pay the salary increase entered into based on the recommendations of the committee appointed to look into the matter, Cabinet Spokesman Mass Media Minister Dr.Bandula Gunawardhana said.

He was speaking at the weekly Cabinet media briefing held yesterday at the Government Information Department yesterday.

“Considering the impacts of the cost of living and the economic crisis erupted recently in Sri Lanka, the Finance, Economic Stabilisation and National Policies Ministry Secretary was directed at the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers held on May 22, 2024 to estimate the wage to be paid to an estate worker per day,” the Minister said.

It was also decided at the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers to appoint a committee to confirm the capability of each regional estate company to pay the said wages.
