Central Province Chief Secretary Menaka Herath has instructed the Municipal Commissioner to transfer officials who have been serving in the same department, including supervisors and other personnel to different departments within the institution itself, subsequent to focusing attention on the financial frauds of the Kandy Municipal Council (KMC).
It has been revealed that some officials of the Kandy Municipal Council have been working in the same place for 10-15 years without any transfer.
In addition to this, many other officers have been working in the same department since they came to the Municipal Council and taking into consideration all these facts, the Chief Ministry Secretary has given instructions to transfer the relevant workers.
In this year’s annual transfers, steps have been taken to transfer all employees who have been serving in the Municipal Council for 5 to 15 years and the relevant names have already been made public as of now.
A special discussion was held on Tuesday (24) at the Kandy Municipal Council by the Central Province Chief Secretary Ajith Premawansa to discuss measures to be taken regarding the serious financial irregularities in the Kandy Municipal Council.
Central Province Chief Ministry and Education Secretary Menaka Herath, Central Province Local Government Commissioner Chamila Atapattu, Kandy Municipal Commissioner Ishan Wijethilaka and others were involved in these discussions.
Herath has pointed out that there is a greater chance of fraud and corruption going undetected due to the same employees working continuously in the same department for many years.
