Mahindian P.H K.H Ranasinghe receiving the ‘Legacy of Victory’ award for his 50-year unbreakable record from former Sri Lanka skipper Marvan Atapattu. Mahinda Principal Athula Wijewardena and Mahinda Club President Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama are also present at this occasion.
Former Mahinda College cricketer P.H.K.H Ranasinghe who scored the highest individual score of 162 at the 1972 battle of the Lovers between Richmond College and Mahinda College was felicitated by Mahinda Club last Saturday at the MCA pavilion. Ranasinghe received the ‘Legacy of Victory’ award for his 50 years unbreakable record from the former Sri Lanka skipper Marvan Atapattu who also started his cricket career at Mahinda College.
At the 1972 big match, Richmond’s Prolific stroke maker number three batter Prasad Kariyawasam (later became a Diplomat) broke the previous highest record set up by Mahindian Sirisena Hettige (in 1939) who scored 155. Kariyawasam scored unbeaten 156 to set up a new record after 33 years. However, Mahindian Ranasinghe once again was able to break this record in their first innings of the same match by scoring a fine knock of 162 which was a 50-year-old record so far no one broke during this big match series.
