Major challenge for Ministry to provide finance and tech facilities needed for inventors – Susil Premajayantha

Education Minister Dr. Susil Premajayantha said that providing the necessary financial and technical facilities and assistance to improve the inventions of inventors, is a big challenge.

Minister Premajayantha said that it is a major challenge for the Ministry to provide the financial and technical facilities necessary for inventors to improve their creations from the national level to the international level and further advance them competitively.

The Minister expressed these views while attending the Inventors Appreciation Ceremony held at the Bandaranaike International Conference Hall, Colombo on the occasion of the Sri Lankan Inventors’ Day on October 26.

The Minister said that in developed countries like the United States of America, every state has a special place to gather innovators and entrepreneurs and after such innovators invent their innovations, the entrepreneurs will link the design with technology and provide support to improve it to the international level.

He also pointed out that during the time he was the Minister in charge of Science and Technology, a separate unit was installed in the National Engineering Research and Development Centre of Sri Lanka (NERDC) to provide the necessary technical support to the inventors to move forward with their innovations.

The Minister was also of the opinion that the world is moving past us because of the fear and delay in making decisions and because no one is trying to change the existing system, instead of blaming history.

He said that nowadays, even university students in Sri Lanka are often in a situation where they are on the road to win their demands instead of engaging in research work, but many people in our country have many innovative abilities inherited in their genes.

The birthday of A.N.S. Kulasinghe, who was an engineer who brought about an amazing change in pre-mixed concrete technology in Sri Lanka as well as the founding commissioner of the Sri Lanka Inventors Association, was on October 26 and arrangements were made to celebrate Inventors Day in his memory.

Under the leadership of the Education Ministry, arrangements were made & prizes and certificates were awarded to more than 300 inventors in schools, universities, and openly in three stages. Many dignitaries including Education State Minister Suren Raghavan attended this event.
