Malwattte takes over Dalada Thevava activities from Asgiri

The Mahanayake Theras of the Asgiri and Malwatte Viharayas arrive for the ceremony at the Dalada Maligawa yesterday.

The ancient ritual of daily Thevava activities performed at the Dalada Maligawa was customarily handed over from the Asgiri Chapter to the Malwatte Chapter yesterday. Every year, the Thevava activities are transferred on the day after Esala Poya.

The members of Dalada Maligawa who are involved in Thevava activities such as the Mahanayake Theras of the Malwatte, Asgiri, and Ubhaya Maha Viharayas, Maha Sangharatnaya in charge of Thevava activities, Diyawadana Nilame and others participated in the event.

On behalf of the Malwatte Chapter, five monks headed by Ven. Thibbatuwawe Medhankara Thera was appointed by the Chief Prelate of the Malwatte Chapter Ven. Thibbatuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Thera for Thevava duties. Ven. Mahawela Ratanapala Thera, Ven. Udagaldebokke Gunananda Thera, Ven. Ganegoda Ratanajothi Thera and Ven. Pemarathana Thera are among those nominated for Thevava activities.
