A joint raid conducted by the Air Force Intelligence Service and the Colombo District Wildlife Range Office in Bellanwila led to the arrest of a suspect in the Ethul Kotte area today (07) for illegal possession and public display of protected wildlife parts.
Authorities recovered the antler rack of a strictly protected Sambar deer (Rusa unicolor) along with two antler racks of a protected Spotted deer (Axis axis), which were being kept and exhibited for sale in violation of the Fauna and Flora Protection Ordinance.
The suspect, along with the seized items, is scheduled to be produced before the Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (08). Wildlife officials remind the public that possessing or displaying protected animal parts is a serious, punishable offense under the law. (Newswire)
