A man reportedly killed his wife on Sunday (5) by slitting her throat with a cleaver, in Mahuragaha Parussagoda in Uragasmanhandiya, Uragasmanhandiya Police said.
The murdered woman, Yakupiti Arachchige Chaturika Malkanti (34), a mother of three, was a resident of Parussagoda, Maha Uragaha. Police investigations reveal that the murder was due to a family dispute. There had been a conflict between the couple on that day. As the conflict aggravated, the husband had killed her by slitting her neck with a cleaver behind the house, the police said.
The husband of the murdered woman is a fishmonger and he was arrested. He was to be produced in court the next day. Investigations are being carried out under the instruction of OIC P.L. Keerthisinghe.
