A man was swept away by floodwater when he accidentally fell into an irrigation channel called Alayadikaddu at Nintavur in Ampara on Monday (13).
This tragedy took place in front of his wife and child when they tried to cross over Alayadikaddu dam. Investigation revealed that he was alone riding his motor cycle along the narrow path of the dam while his wife and child were walking on the particular path behind him. He accidentally fell into the irrigation channel where floodwater was being released abundantly and he was swept away. He was identified as Abdul Latheef Mohammed Ikram who has returned from abroad around two months before the tragedy.
