Man who posted photos of girls in fake Facebook account remanded

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested a person in connection with an incident of posting a photo of a minor girl who was

crowned as a New Year princess on Facebook calling bids to rape her. Colombo Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis ordered yesterday (10) to remand him until May 18.

The Magistrate remanded the suspect Chamila Jeewantha Seneviratne, a resident of No. 68, Yatawara, Wattegama and ordered the Prison Superintendent to refer him to a psychiatrist and submit a report to the court. The suspect has posted sexually abusive content anonymously on a Facebook Group called Punchi Keli Podda, using photos of minor girls and children, and inviting people to bid for sexual abuse.

The CID told the court that the suspect had used the photographs of little girls taken from the parents’ Facebook accounts to publish sexually abusive content.

CID informed the court that the group had been created from a fake account called Nilu Nilu and that it has 4,400 members.

The CID stated that the suspect had psychologically assaulted the girls by posting abusive content using photographs of the minors. Investigations were started based on a complaint received by the Director of the Computer Crime Investigation Division.
