Man who smuggled capsules arrested from Kalubowila

The Colombo North Division Criminal Investigation Bureau officers yesterday arrested a leading drug trafficker who was distributing a type of narcotic drug sold by drug peddlers targeting school children.

The police seized 78,670 drug capsules from the possession of the suspect.

The officers of the Tangalle Division Criminal Investigation Bureau have also arrested a drug smuggler who was involved in bringing the drug stock to the land in Kandy yesterday.

A senior police officer said that the drug trafficker, who is a resident of Kirinda, went to Kandy to escape from the police and stayed in the hospital for several days and was arrested when he came out of the hospital.

After the lengthy interrogation, 650 grams of heroin were found hidden by him in Mahiyanganaya.

A brother of this suspect was arrested a few days ago in Kataragama with 201 grams of heroin by the officers of Tangalle Division Crime Investigation Bureau.

Two other suspects were arrested with six grams and 82 grams of heroin. It has been identified that all the suspects are connected to the suspects’s network arrested in Kandy.

Police said that this smuggler was a member of a group that brought 160 kilos of heroin and firearms to Sri Lanka by sea five months ago.

It is said that this suspect has taken 20 kilos of heroin and two pistols from the cargo. The police say the suspect has accepted this when questioned. Based on the information disclosed by this suspect, the officials of the Tangalle Division Criminal Investigation Bureau have started an extensive operation to arrest the leaders involved in this heroin trafficking and find firearms.
