Kandy Division Crime Investigation Unit has arrested a person who allegedly pawned 53 mobile phones stolen by drug addicts.
According to information that heroin was being sold in a house in Thennakumbura area in Kandy, Police said that they found the stock of mobile phones during an inspection of the house.
Many valuable mobile phones, including an Apple mobile phone worth Rs.250,000 said to belong to a lecturer of the North-Western University, were found in the possession of the suspect and were taken into Police custody. Police investigations have revealed that the suspect has bought these mobile phones at a very low price from people who are addicted to drugs.Police said that they are working to get reports from the police stations through IMIs on mobile phones.
Kandy Police Headquarters Chief Inspector Rasika Sampath and a team conducted the raid.
