Manusha interrogated for six hours

Former Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment Manusha Nanayakkara was questioned at length for about six hours yesterday (21) by the Criminal Investigation Department’s Trafficking in Persons, Smuggling Investigations and Maritime Crime Investigation Division in connection with an investigation into the E 08 employment visa issue in South Korea.

When Nanayakkara was the Minister, he had entered into an agreement regarding the employment visa. In connection with an investigation initiated by the Criminal Investigation Department into the problematic situation regarding the agreement, he appeared before the Criminal Investigation Department and gave a statement after obtaining anticipatory bail from the court.

Although Manusha had been summoned before the Criminal Investigation Department on an earlier occasion, he did not appear before the Criminal Investigation Department. Instead, he submitted an anticipatory bail application to the court. When the bail application was considered in court the day before yesterday (21), the Criminal Investigation Department stated before the court that it was not necessary to arrest Manusha Nanayakkara at that time. At that time, Nanayakkara’s lawyers stated to the court that he would appear before the Criminal Investigation Department to give a statement on the 21st. Accordingly, the former minister appeared before the Criminal Investigation Department yesterday.
