Many names in a long ballot paper will confuse voters at poll – Malwatte Anunayake Thera

The Anunayake of the Malwatte Chapter Ven.Dimbulkumbure Wimaladhamma Thera said that 18 including people who are not known to anyone in the country, have made the ballot paper unnecessarily long by depositing money for the Presidential Election.

The Thera said that this will also increase printing costs. “This will result in much inconvenience to the people when voting for their preferences. The Thera was in a quandary as to why those who will be unable to obtain at least 1,000 votes want to contest at a Presidential Election.

He also said that as a result millions of rupees extra will have to be spent on this election.

The Anunayake Thera made these observations when the Chairman of the alliance,’Let us stop corruption and build the motherland’ MP Roshan Ranasinghe and former Chief Justice

Sarath N. De Silva visited the Malwatte Maha Vihara yesterday (7) and spoke to the Anunayake Thera and obtained his blessings.

The Thera also said that due to the greed of some unknown people to make their names known, they have made deposits for contesting the presidential election and in the future, the ballot paper may be extended further in length by other people depositing money as well.

Speaking further, the Thera said that as in the Mahapatharanga Jathakaya, due to the ballot paper being very long, additional state finances have to be spent as well the time and labour of officials.
