McLarens Group hosted ‘Day of the Seafarer 2023’ to celebrate and appreciate the commitment and contribution of seafarers, helping Sri Lanka and the world to move.

McLarens Group has over hundred and sixty five qualified seafarers, while McLarens Maritime Academy (MMA) is committed to its continuous delivery of world class seafarers.

National Mangrove Expert Committee Chairperson Professor Sewwandi Jayakody in her keynote speech, on ‘Protecting Oceans’ and its importance on protecting oceans, was highly appreciated and commended by the audience.

Her research interests include coastal ecosystem management, policy and impacts of human disturbance on ecosystem processes and functions.

World Maritime theme declared by IMO for the year 2023 is: ‘MARPOL at 50, our commitment goes on’. IMO is also focused on creating awareness on the importance of protecting marine environment and the theme continues to be the same for ‘Day of the Seafarer’. To commemorate the theme, IMO has launched a hashtag social media campaign for seafarers, with the tagline ‘Oceans worth Protecting.’

McLarens HR team also recognised and appreciated ‘service milestones’ of seafaring employees who had completed ten years of loyal service to the company.

McLarens Group, Group Managing Director Shehara De Silva, Director General of Merchant Shipping Secretariat, Ajith Wijesinghe, Harbor Master (Sri Lanka Ports Authority) Cpt. Nirmal Silva, Ceylon Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive Office, Buwaneka Perera were among the participants.
