Measures underway to enhance employability of youth to alleviate poverty – Ranil Willaddarage NDF

Well-known businessman and New Democratic Front Colombo District Candidate Ranil Willaddarage the stated that efforts are underway to identify the talents of young men and women, elevating them to a professional level and creating a platform for new employment and entrepreneurial opportunities.

He expressed these views while addressing a public meeting in Kesbewa.

Further elaborating, Willaddarage highlighted that one of the main challenges young people face today is finding employment. He noted that, while there are job opportunities both locally and internationally, a lack of professional skills among youth remains a significant issue. As a solution, he emphasised the need to recognise hidden talents and develop professional skills and knowledge that align with the job market.

Enhancing creativity and professionalism would empower young people to secure jobs and build successful futures as entrepreneurs, thus addressing youth unemployment. He underscored the need for a national policy to address issues related to Education, professional training, and job access for young men and women.

Willaddarage also acknowledged the efforts of Ranil Wickremesinghe, in stabilising Sri Lanka’s Economy, amidst crises, through effective management. He stressed that future economic decisions would determine whether the country advances or regresses. He is contesting in this election with an economic plan aimed at building the nation through entrepreneurship, with a focus on exporting Sri Lankan brands, rather than relying solely on raw material and supply-based businesses. This, he said, would strengthen the economy through foreign exchange earnings.

He further expressed that, to uplift impoverished communities, politicians must bring about qualitative changes in the nation’s economic, political, cultural and educational sectors, regardless of their own achievements, because, if the society at large suffers in poverty, it remains a problem. Wiladdarage expressed hope for transformative changes within society to alleviate such conditions.

Sharing his entrepreneurial skills, Willaddarage said he has robust plans to develop the online export market of Sri Lankan Brands, which can earn a significant amount of forex to the country.

He also said the Government should address the numerous issues of entrepreneurs in the export market and help them in the best way possible to increase foreign revenue through exports in the next few years.

Willadarage said through his business he has shown how Sri Lankan Brands could be promoted online and create and export market for them to bring foreign revenue which can support the country’s economic revival.

“If the country wants to recover quickly, it can be recovered through promotion of our Brands and creating an online market for our value-added products overseas”.

He said E-commerce is virtually an essential approach for both large and small businesses, now that almost all products and services are online. “Having a strong E-commerce presence can increase efficiency and productivity, while lowering costs” he added.
